Artists Statement

Sobia's works shows a frustration and dichotomy, with both a love of the historical Pakistan, with the Pakistan of today. Using symbols found in traditional miniature paintings, Sobia focuses on Pakistan's past and current politcial situation, her reflections communicating the loss, disillusionment and frustration the youth of today are experiencing.

Sobia faces bloodshed, violence and turmoil in her country; and she uses her art to come to terms with the life she has as an artist in contemporary Pakistan. Her works are a combination of blame - towards the modern state - with a longing and nostalgia to philosophers of the past:

I admire Sir Allama Mohammad Iqbal, who was a great poet and philosopher. One of his quatrain or “Rubai” moved and inspired me greatly and re-kindled my love for my country.
